What’s the difference between the high and low chassis? |
Ruby 1934 chassis change. Dropped floor level for low chassis and moved
engine mounts. High chassis outrigger is straight for high chassis or
rises for low chassis. The ‘A’ piece at the front of the chassis is
straight on a high frame and swan-necked on low. |
|
Ruby with clickety click sound on overrun and popping. |
Weak mixture or leaky manifold gasket. |
|
Oil and grease period when doing very low annual mileage |
Approx. 300 miles or maybe up to annually. Check rear axle oil more
often - very critical. Oil: change every year irrespective of mileage.
Grease fan spindle more regularly. |
|
How can you stop oil leaks from valve spring cover? |
Use a Cambridge tappet cover, which is solid alloy and much more rigid. |
|
Pneumatic grease gun recommended |
Available on Amazon for about £39. Replace the chuck with one from your
old manual grease gun. |
|
Recommendation
|
Fit new grease nipples as new guns won’t fit old nipples. Seven
Workshop. |
|
Oil dripping out of grease gun |
Release pressure when finished using |
|
What type of grease to use to general chassis lubrication? |
General purpose or possibly graphite or LM grease. |
|
Steering box: Should be oil
lubricated but does have a grease nipple. |
Nipple can be removed to fill with oil, but it will leak out at the
bottom of the steering column. Penrite steering box lubricant is good
and doesn’t leak. If greased, don’t use too much. |
|
Recommendation
|
Apply a small amount of grease on the base of the distributor pinion
gear and oil the shaft. Remove distributor and dynamo C-clip to gain
access for greasing. |
|
Recommendation
|
Molyslip – much quieter in a crash gearbox with straight cut gears and
back axle to stop them whining. Note: Molyslip is not suitable
for use on synchromesh gearboxes. |
|
Recommendation
|
If removing the dynamo and dynamo casing, this leaves the exposed gear
for debris to fall in. When removing the dynamo casing, cover the hole
to stop debris falling in. |
|
Recommendation
|
If you strip the thread for the long bolt on the dynamo/casing (into
aluminium block), you can use a long stud to reach the lower part of the
thread as the tapped thread is very long in the block. Whitworth thread. |
|
3 brush dynamo: If converted to 2 brush dynamo what do you need to
change in the electrics? |
Need to include a compensated voltage regulator but difficult to find.
Maybe electronic (from classic Dynamos) or Morris Minor version maybe.
AW Electrics can do the conversion. |

Charging faults |
Flow chart to located on the Cornwall A7 Club website. Under ‘Technical
Articles’, select ‘Charging Fault Finding’. |
|
Recommended sequence for setting up Ruby brakes |
Technically front should come on first, but practically better to have
rear come on first. Jack it up with a friend to press the brakes or use
a lump of wood to depress the pedal. Don’t adjust on the hand brake. |
|
Engine Faults |
An Engine Fault Tracing Chart is located on the DA7C website. Under ‘Technical’
select ‘Engine’ then ‘Tracing Engine Faults’. |
