Care of HT Leads

Many a Seven have we come across where the 4 plug leads are banded or taped together after their exit from the distributor cap. This is bad practise especially on older leads. It encourages  the spark to jump the insulation to another lead, especially in damp or oily conditions, causing rough running and mis firing. Ensure that each lead runs independently from dizzy to plug and is free from water and oil. It stands to reason that the leads should not rest on or be close to metal for the same reason.

Periodically check that all fixings are tight and gently lift each lead from dizzy/coil ferrule as it is surprising how somehow the connection breaks and the lead is just resting in the hole!
It is a good idea to mark number one plug lead (liquid correction fluid is good for this) and remember firing order is 1 3 4 2 clockwise looking down on the distributor.

Always use copper cored ht lead and never the carbon fibre modern filled variety on your Seven
