THE SIMPLEST 12 VOLT CONVERSION

Before you start…Check that the 6 volt installation is working OK.

To Convert to 12 volt operation follow these instructions:-

1.  Remove and discard the 6 volt battery.

2.  Change all bulbs to 12 volt type.

3.  Replace ignition coil with 12 volt type.

4.  Remove Cut-Out and insert 40 ohm 2 watt resistor in series with the control winding. Re-install cut-out as before.

5.  Install suitable 12 volt battery (neg. polarity)

6.   No need to modify starter or horn.

7.   Check that you have done all the above carefully.

8.   Turn on ignition and start engine.

9.   Check ammeter. If reading is wrong way round reverse connections at rear of ammeter.

10.  Adjust third brush as before to obtain suitable charge rate.

NOTES.

1.   If petrol gauge fitted reduce voltage to terminal B using regulator type 7805 or similar if you want it to retain accuracy.

2.  Wiper motors will work on 12 volt, but probably with reduced life. Best to find a 12 volt motor.

3.   Trafficators - Problem!  Best to install modern ‘flashers’

4.   These instructions apply to C35 type dynamos, but the same principles apply to DEL or  DFL
